Mastery & Fulfilment

the muses of men

Welcome to Sunday,

The gears are turning, and another week is starting. The journey of success never ends, even resting is a form of success. The theme for this week is centered around just managing success and staying fulfilled.

🧐 Thought(s) of the Week

Managing social expectations on the grind to success.

There have been many attempts to get me to go out, but are these worth the setback of the life I’m trying to build? Many times I set an expectation to go out with friends from many weeks prior but realize as I approach the date in question, that I haven’t prepared mentally to fall off my busy bandwagon.

Going into the new year I think it will be beneficial to be more intentional about my social life. All aspects of life can’t always be in balance during the journey of success.

ā¤ļø Weekly Highlights

1 - Updating My Calendar šŸ“†

This may not seem like a big deal, but being intentional with your time is crucial for success. Since I’ve made the intention to prioritize sleep, I have.

Now I’m making the intention to prioritize becoming a better and more efficient worker, with a few minor priorities.

To become a better writer and speaker I need to read more so I’ve added a time slot specifically for reading (books, articles, newsletters)

To become a more efficient worker I’ve prioritized having more blocks of time dedicated to work. The expectation is that by indulging in the craft overtime I’ll create efficiencies that will reduce the amount of input to produce the biggest output.

2 - Refining my system of operation āš™ļø

Utilizing a given mental model to refine and become better. I’ve utilized something I’m dubbing ā€œSimple Prioritizationā€, which I’ve used to become fittest, eat the best, and sleep best, to now become most efficient.

In a nutshell, it’s just making the focus each day better at one singular thing. It doesn’t mean other tasks don’t get done, but something must be done for the priority I’ve for myself for a given time period.

3 - Rest. šŸ˜“

Train hard. Work hard. Rest Harder.

I took the week to rest from my training program. I feel rejuvenated, my legs don’t feel like pudding and I don’t feel fatigued. Resting for a week has become core to my routine, I’ve always felt stronger and better after rest.

The next 6 weeks will be preparation for one of the biggest exams of my life. This has been a week of rest, which will be the start of many weeks of war physically and mentally.

4 - Completed Make Time. šŸ“•ā±ļø

Now it’s time to make time for what matters to me. I’ll be doing a book review on Make Time, watch out for an email/post at the end of the month.

5 - Completed my 6th 5k for the year šŸƒšŸ½šŸ’Ø

Running has become easier. All I can re-iterate is that simple and small progress got me here, and simple and small progress will get me to a marathon.

1- Order your thoughts,

I’ve been unofficially journaling myself for the last 3 years:

I’ve stumbled on the habit when I needed the most clarity. I’ve found that I’ve many jumbled thoughts within my head, when I’ve felt most overwhelmed I tend to just type them out, write them in a book, or just get scraps of paper to make sense of data within my brain. I’m not at the point of officially having time within my day to journal, but someday soon.

2 - Mastery and Fulfilment.

To achieve complete mastery and fulfillment in life, I believe that you must grasp your life by hand and navigate to your destination — passivity will not garner success. I was recently reading an article that I pulled from Ali Abdaal’s newsletter that talks about ā€œHow to Avoid Workā€, and it really highlights the importance of charting your own course and making the tough decisions to ensure your success. Here are a few extracted quotes from the article:

Each of us is somewhat like an electric light bulb, deriving its power from some central force. Just as the bulb accumulates dust and soot from the air around it until it is darkened, then blackened, so our individuality becomes dulled at first and then entirely blotted out from the accumulation of advice and interference that is superimposed upon us by family and friends.

You can’t build a salable background in any field by just taking on a job and following directions and being punctual and faithful and a hard-working employee.

That’s a lot of horsefeathers.

You’ve got to do something unusual to get favorable attention. And one of the simplest ways for anyone to gain recognition and advancement in any job is to develop a reputation for being a person who has ā€˜good ideas.’

No matter where you work, you’ll get a lot of good ideas if you’ll:

1. Start with the little everyday problems. When something goes wrong on the job, see if you can figure out what to do about it.

2. Get into the habit of going to the boss with your suggested solution to a problem, instead of just dumping the problem into his lap.

3. If your solution is no good, find out what’s wrong with it, so you can do better the next time.

3 - Learning how to change a street light:

This is quite the feat of engineering, we need this simplicity in Jamaica.
